It can also happen that a completely healthy tooth needs to be removed. This is possible when the tooth is in a poor position and endangers a more valuable tooth from a dental perspective – for example, in terms of chewing. Wisdom teeth very often fall into this category.
Tooth extraction may also be necessary in cases of a fractured or inflamed tooth root, or a mobile tooth due to periodontal disease. This option should also be considered if, despite dental treatment for certain teeth, the pain remains intense and does not subside.
Regarding tooth removal, we can distinguish between simple, complicated, and surgical extractions. While the simple procedure doesn’t really need explanation, the term ‘complicated’ does. We use this in cases where the tooth breaks or fragments during removal. Unfortunately, this often results in the need for surgical exposure.
In seemingly complicated situations, the safest solution may be surgical exposure, which is primarily used for ‘unerupted’ or poorly positioned teeth. Surgical tooth extraction is also necessary for most wisdom tooth removals.
In all cases, tooth extraction must be preceded by a preliminary examination and the preparation of a panorama x-ray. This shows all the important information about the given tooth, which is of great help to the treating doctor. This helps to decide what type of tooth extraction is necessary, and also ensures that there are no unpleasant surprises during the procedure.
Both simple and surgical tooth extractions are performed under local anesthesia, so there is no pain or discomfort. The extraction is performed gently, using professional tools, so that the tooth can be removed as quickly and with as little trauma as possible. After the extraction, the site of the tooth extraction is sutured with a few stitches, which results in faster healing. The stitches can usually be removed 7 days after the surgery, which is also a painless process.
It is worth waiting until the anesthetic effect has completely worn off before eating and drinking. However, it is not recommended to consume everything after this. We should avoid dairy products and raw meat for a few days, but it is also not recommended to choose alcoholic and carbonated drinks.
If swelling occurs at the site of the tooth extraction, we can ice the affected areas, but be careful not to let our face get cold! If we feel it is necessary, we can take painkillers for any pain we may have.
Minden esetben fontos betartani a kezelőorvos utasításait. Ez kiemelten vonatkozik a szájhigiéniára. Öblögetni pár napig például nem szabad, ahogy hamarabb abbahagyni az antibiotikum szedését sem!
For us, tooth extraction is not a routine procedure, but a carefully planned, safe process.
